On Wednesday, October 16, JoyNews hosted a National Dialogue centered on the critical issue of cybersecurity in Ghana, particularly in light of the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024. The dialogue, titled “Digital Democracy: Cybersecurity at Election 2024 Crossroads,” focused on the nation’s readiness to handle potential cyber threats, including the possibility of a cyber shutdown during the elections.
A distinguished panel of experts shared insights and deliberated on the various measures in place to ensure a secure and resilient digital environment for the elections. The panelists included:
- Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission
- Stephen Cudjoe-Sesshie, Head of the National Emergency Response Team, Cybersecurity Authority
- Solomon Dodoo Attoh, Project Officer-Cybersecurity, Youth Bridge Foundation
- Rev George Amoh, Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council
The discussion highlighted the importance of cybersecurity in protecting the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process, as well as the proactive steps being taken to mitigate any cyber risks. The panelists emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among key institutions to prevent disruptions and safeguard the digital aspects of the election.
