Policy Brief
This policy brief provides an overview of the issues surrounding youth participation in governance and electoral processes in Ghana and proposes key factors that can contribute to stability and development in this area. Ghana has a large youthful population, with 73.7% of the population falling below the age of 35 years. However, youth participation in political and electoral processes remains low, with less than 2% of the 275 -member Parliament falling within the 21-35 age range. This marginalization of the youth population creates a risk for social unrest
and conflict. To address this issue, the government of Ghana and other stakeholders need to implement various initiatives to enhance youth engagement, civic education, and youth representation.

Highlights
African Youth And Governance Convergence
#AYGC
Initiated and convened by Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF), the African Youth and Governance Convergence (AYGC) since 2009 has served as an important platform for grooming young people in Africa and beyond the continent in the areas of Leadership, Mentorship, Community Impact as well as Networking & Exchanges.
From 2019, the AYGC serves as a Youth Leadership Programme of the Youth Bridge Research Institute. YBF in collaboration with the Youth Bridge Research Institute (YBRI) has therefore revised the focus of the platform from merely as youth governance conference to a more institutionalized platform of convergence of young people and their mentors after every year of mentorship to share experiences, lessons and build the capacity of young people.
The renewed focus of the platform will confer Fellowship Status on participants and the criteria as well as responsibilities for such conferment.

The Tullow STEM Radio School is an initiative under the project. It was launched in April 2020 as a way of providing STEM lessons on radio to JHS/SHS students in the selected rural communities of the Western Region especially in the wake of COVID-19.
The Educate to Innovate with STEM is implemented by the Youth Bridge Foundation with funding from Tullow Oil Ghana Limited.

Access To Justice
#Access2Justice
Access To Justice
#Access2Justice
Advancing Access to Justice for Youth and Persons with Disability (PWDs) is one of our major focus areas. Youth Bridge Foundation considers youth awareness of their fundamental human rights including access to justice as crucial in helping them develop as well as be positive agents of change for national development. A Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative report of 2017 highlighted that, basic rights of children and youth are violated in the juvenile justice system in Ghana. Inadequate knowledge of legal and policy frameworks guaranteeing the basic rights of children and the youth limits the ability of parents, guardians and the youth to demand fair hearing and judgment.
Some of our projects towards the Youth and Justice are
PUZZLED (Youth Bridge Initiative with funding from OSIWA), a 13-episodes TV drama series informed by the Child and Family Welfare Policy (2015) of Ghana. It was part of activities under our OSIWA funded Access to Justice for Youth and Persons with Disability (PDWs).
Youth Awareness Improves Justice Project (Youth Bridge Initiative with funding from STAR-Ghana) was geared towards expanding the scope of legal education for young people by simplifying legal processes & procedures, awareness creation at community-based outreach programs as well as the use of mobile technology platforms for information dissemination.

“PUZZLED ” is 13-episode drama series that highlights the plight and societal ills confronting the youth including persons with disabilities in Ghana as well as advancing family welfare issues. The Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF) initiative funded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) adopted a youth friendly-innovative approach to translate the 2015 Child and Family Welfare Policy of Ghana into a 13-episodes TV Drama Series titled PUZZLED.
Embedded in each series is a Sign Language Interpretation for the deaf and those hard of hearing as well as the production of the 2015 Child and Family Welfare Policy of Ghana into Braille for the visually impaired.

Youth Vote
YBF aims at preparing and shaping the psyche of young people in a way that changes the narrative about them as foot-soldiers, voting machines and agents used to foment violent electoral battles and conflict. YOUTH VOTE seeks to provide information and knowledge acquisition for responsible youth participation in elections and inspire the youth to participate in all political processes.
